Native Plants

Q. Who is Mr. Smarty Plants?
A: There are those who suspect Wildflower Center volunteers are the culpable and capable culprits. Yet, others think staff members play some, albeit small, role. You can torture us with your plant questions, but we will never reveal the Green Guru's secret identity.
Did you know you can access the Native Plant Information Network with your web-enabled smartphone?
Ask Mr. Smarty Plants is a free service provided by the staff and volunteers at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center.

Title: Deer resistance of non-native Loropetalum
Answered by: Barbara Medford
QUESTION:
I love Loropetalum (Plum Delight). Is it Deer Resistant?ANSWER:
A native of China, Japan and the Himalayas, Loropetalum is out of our normal field of expertise. The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center is committed to the care, protection and propagation of plants native to North America. However, we did find this Gardener's Confidence Collection webpage on Loropetalum which indicates deer don't seem too interested in the plant. You do understand that deer will browse anything that can't run away if their natural food sources are unavailable.More Deer Resistant Questions
