Location: NE of low water crossing of Salado Creek on road from main base of Ft Sam Houston to Pershing Firing Range, San Antonio.Latitude: 0.000000
Habitat: Open, level, floodplain, Damp, alluvial soil; frequently flooded. Among a myriad of herbaceous plants.
Description: Sub-shrub, sprawling, w/erect branches to 80 cm tall x 2 mm dia. Internodes about 2.5 cm. Stem green, glaucous w/longitudinal furrows. Leaves opposite, 1-3 mm long. Terminal buds 2-3 mm long, ovulate, bracts in 4-6 pairs, 3-6 mm long, the inner pairs becoming red & succulent when ripe.
