Habitat: Damp, alkaline, alluvial soil. Full sun. Among Lonicera & under leafless Quercus texana. Ubiquitous.
Description: Winter annual with deep taproots. Leaves crowded in basal rosette, to 20 cm, pinnatifid. Stems scapose (multiple), 3-20 cm tall. Blooms come in short stature, scape growing progressively to fruit stage. Corolla yellow, rays 5-toothed. No disk florets. Fruits plumose--a puff ball.
