Distribution
USA: AL , AR , GA , IL , IN , KS , KY , LA , MN , MO , MS , OH , OK , PA , TN , TX , VA , WINative Distribution: US Southeast, Mississippi River valley states, Great Lake states and eastern Great Plains.
Native Habitat: Mostly on shallow, calcareous soils on barrens, limestone glades and on limestone bluffs. In the Ozark Mountains it also occurs in soils on sandstone and granitic substrates.
