A 2-6 ft. perennial with attractive, graceful, fern-like foliage. Unfurling from purplish shoots the leaves are divided into ternate segments which are redivided and at maturity resemble columbine leaves. Foliage usually dies back by summer in dry sites. The tiny, green flowers with dangling stamens, on male plants, are showy only at close range.
