A tall, leafy, malodorous plant with pale blue to purple, bilaterally symmetrical flowers in long clusters in leaf axils.
The genus name comes from the Greek trichos ("hair") and stemon ("stamen"), referring to the long slender stamens, which are characteristic of the genus. Among the several other species is the handsome, pleasantly aromatic shrub Woolly Blue Curls (T. lanatum), also known as Romero, which grows in southern California and has blue flowers in dense, terminal clusters covered with violet wool.
