Long, weak stems, from 1-1/2 to 9 ft. in length, end in coiled tendrils by which the plant attaches itself as it climbs chaparral bushes. Leaves are pinnately compound. The pea-like flowers are deep, rich-red or crimson and are followed by pea-like pods.
